The Chatham Winter Weather Survival Drive Program began as a small project in 2022 with one collection location, Chapel in the Pines Presbyterian Church and the support of the Encore at Briar Chapel Community. The successful outcome was the distribution of 1700 items to those in need. The program was expanded to serve all of Chatham County with eight collections locations and three distribution events in 2023/24. Almost 5000 items were distributed.
With the support of numerous partner organizations, generous donors contribute winter outerwear items. The dedication of the all-volunteer corps provides all aspects of the management of the operation. Thousands of items are distributed to hundreds of vulnerable men, women, and children each year.
